Pickup trucks have become more popular than ever all over the nation. People love the balance of performance, efficiency, safety, and comfort you get from a truck, combined with its amped-up towing capacity.

When it comes to pickup trucks, the Ford F-150 and the Ram 1500 are at the top of their class, featuring powerful drives and incredible capabilities. The question remains, though, which brand should you select for your next pickup? Check out this side-by-side comparison of the 2019 Ford F-150 and the Ram 1500 to help better answer this question. 2019 Ford F-150 vs Ram 1500: Engines and Efficiency

Ford F-150 Engine Options

When it comes to choosing your next vehicle, it's nice to have options. With an impressive lineup of five high-powered performance engines, the 2019 Ford F-150 is not lacking in choices. Kicking off this superior lineup is the standard 2.7-liter Turbocharged EcoBoost® engine outputting an impressive 325 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. And, the power and performance only accelerates from there.

The available 3.5-liter EcoBoost® engine amps it up to 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque for the ultimate driving experience on the highway. Meanwhile, the available 3.0-liter Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel achieves a stunning EPA-estimated 22 MPG city and 30 MPH highway to help keep you out exploring new roads longer. So, no matter what you're looking for in your next truck, the F-150 has an engine option for you.

Ram 1500 Engine Options

On the other hand, the Ram 1500 only has three engine options available, none of which can achieve the same impressive output as the F-150. The available 5.7-liter HEMI® V8 engine is only able to achieve 395 horsepower, comparable to the 5.0-liter V8 engine in the F-150, but is still unable to reach the same superior performance as the 3.5-liter engine.

Additionally, the standard Pentastar® V6 engine on the Ram 1500 also falls short of the fuel efficiency of the F-150 with an EPA-estimated 17 MPG city and 25 MPG highway. So, when driving around in the Ram 1500, you'll have to stop to fuel up more often than with the F-150.

Tow Your Largest Trailer with Confidence and Ease

Trucks are known for getting the job done when it comes to hauling around heavy trailers. When the Ford F-150 is equipped with the available 3.5-liter V6 engine, it's able to achieve a maximum towing capacity of 13,200 pounds. Such a superior towing capacity means there's very little the F-150 cannot handle. On the other hand, the Ram 1500 may have difficulty towing a larger camping trailer since it only has a maximum towing capacity of 12,750 pounds.

The 2019 Ford F-150 also offers the revolutionary Pro Trailer Backup Assist™. This deluxe camera allows you to easily synchronize your truck and trailer for a quick setup, helping you to hit the road faster. When backing your trailer into a campsite, control the direction you want your trailer to go with a simple turn of a knob. Therefore, this system helps ensure you're parking safely and securely. You may have some trouble backing up with the Ram 1500 though, since this feature is exclusive to the F-150.

Stunning Payload Capacities

In addition to having a greater maximum towing capacity, the F-150 is able to handle larger payloads over the Ram 1500. The 5.0-liter V8 engine in the F-150 helps allow for a maximum payload capacity of 3,270 pounds, so you can load up your bed and hit your worksite. Unfortunately, you may have to make extra trips with the Ram 1500 since it can only handle a payload of 2,300 pounds maximum.

Even though the 2019 Ford F-150 surpasses the Ram 1500, their payloads do allow you to load up some seriously heavy items. When you need to load your bed and can't get a hand free, these trucks have available remote tailgate releases. Simply press a button on your key fob to lower the tailgate, helping you store bulky equipment with ease. The F-150 takes convenience to the next level though, with available stowable loading ramps to let you slide items into the bed, and an available integrated tailgated step with lift assist, so you can easily jump into the rear of your pickup. Once again, these features are not available on the Ram 1500, which may make loading up the back more strenuous.

2019 Ford F-150 vs Ram 1500: Cargo Space Comparison

Superior payload capacities allow you to tote around larger items from worksite to worksite or load up the bed for an off-roading camping excursion. The Ram 1500 features a maximum of 61.5 cubic feet of cargo space to fit larger items like plywood. However, the 2019 Ford F-150 offers a maximum of 77.4 cubic feet in the bed, helping you fit even more cargo. So, not only can the F-150 handle heavier items in its bed than the Ram 1500, but it can store larger items, too.

The two trucks are similar when it comes to added cargo storage, though. The Ram 1500 does offer an available RamBox® Cargo Management System to help increase cargo space and provide additional room for smaller items. The F-150 has a comparable feature, as well, with its flexible and configurable BoxLink™ system.
