If you’ve had dreams of driving an all-electric truck throughout Geneva, Canandaigua, or Rochester, New York, then it can become a reality with the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning.* This innovative vehicle has all the capability of a truck while at the same time demonstrating the power an electric motor can bring.
Here at Friendly Ford, we know drivers are eager to test out this model. It will soon be in our showroom for you to view up close and take it for a test drive. Until it arrives, you can do some extra research to see what it’s all about. In this Ford F-150 Lightning preview, we cover some of its exciting features. Read on to learn more!
Let’s first talk about the technology within this truck. It comes standard with the SYNC® 4 system that features a 12-inch touchscreen. However, it also offers the available SYNC® 4A system as an upgrade. This system features a sizeable 15.5-inch portrait touchscreen so you can more easily view all your truck’s settings and controls.
On this touchscreen, you’ll also find helpful information about your vehicle’s range to see if you have enough power to get where you’re going. Intelligent Range can provide estimations and adjust the distance based on current traffic conditions and how much weight you’re towing, the latter of which is measured through available onboard scales.
There’s also FordPass™ Power My Trip. This feature makes it easier to set out on an adventure since you’ll stay in the know about your truck’s battery power, range, and where to go to charge up. Plus, with your vehicle’s continual over-the-air Software Updates, you’ll know that everything is as current as possible.
Electric vehicle performance is paramount to deciding if it will work for your needs. Top of mind is always range, the best metric for seeing just how many miles a certain vehicle can travel when fully charged.
Drivers of the F-150 Lightning can choose between two batteries: a standard-range battery that can travel a targeted EPA-estimated 230 miles or an extended-range battery that increases that targeted EPA-estimated range to 300 miles. To charge your vehicle, you’ll receive a standard 32-amp Ford Mobile Charger cord that works with 120-volt or 240-volt outlets.
Drivers who opt for the extended-range battery will receive the 80-amp Ford Charge Station Pro, which will be installed at your home. It utilizes dual onboard charging to get your truck powered up overnight more quickly and conveniently.
Now that your truck is charged and on the road, you’ll enjoy some serious power from the engine, which is targeted to deliver up to 563 horsepower and 775 lb-ft of torque.
With that powerful engine under the hood, you’ll be able to tow and haul plenty of cargo. That’s seen through the F-150 Lightning’s targeted maximum towing capacity of 10,000 pounds. It’s also projected to handle up to 2,000 pounds of payload capacity to move work equipment, heavy furniture, or the like.
Numerous technology systems will be available to make towing easier, like the Pro Trailer Backup Assist™ and Pro Trailer Hitch Assist. The former equips your truck with a knob that can be turned to control the trailer, while the latter feature helps you get hitched up in the first place through careful maneuvers.
What’s also great about the F-150 Lightning is that it already comes standard in a 4×4 drivetrain, giving you ample traction to drive in off-road territory. Different drive modes like Tow/Haul and Off-Road can help customize your driving needs to the situation.
